London Breed is the 45th Mayor of the City and County of San Francisco. She previously served as President of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors and Acting Mayor, leading San Francisco following the tragic passing of Mayor Edwin Lee. She is the first African-American woman and only second woman to serve as Mayor.

London first won election to the Board of Supervisors in November 2012. In January of 2015, her colleagues elected her President of the Board. She was re-elected as District 5 Supervisor in November 2016 and unanimously re-elected as Board President two months later.

London is a native San Franciscan, raised by her grandmother in Plaza East Public Housing in the Western Addition. She graduated with honors from Galileo High School and attended the University of California, Davis, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science/Public Service with a minor in African American Studies. She went on to earn a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco.

Mr. Henry S. Bensurto Jr. assumed his post as the Philippine Consul General to San Francisco in June 2014. Consul General Bensurto is a career diplomat and a respected member of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), and is currently one of the Philippines’ leading experts on maritime security and the West Philippine Sea issue, being part of the Philippine team that filed the arbitration case against China on the West Philippine Sea, which is now pending before an Arbitral Tribunal in the Hague.

Immediately prior to his posting in San Francisco, Consul General Bensurto served as the Assistant Secretary of the West Philippine Sea Center (WPSC) in the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Secretary-General of the Commission on Maritime and Ocean Affairs Secretariat (CMOAS), a cabinet-level inter-agency coordinating body on the Law of th Sea and other maritime issues.

Consul General Bensurto has been recognized several times for his ground-breaking work on Philippine maritime security and its territorial disputes within the West Philippine Sea. He received the Presidential Order of Lakandula (rank of Grand Officer), one of the highest honors given by the Philippine Government, for his foreign policy contributions toward the Philippines’ approach to theWest Philippine Sea disputes. Likewise, he received the Presidential Award of Gawad Mabini (rank of Commander) for his leadership and contributions to the passage of the Philippine Archipelagic Baselines Law in 2009.

Consul General Bensurto is an alumnus of both the University of the Philippines, having earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 1985, and the San Beda College of Law, where he graduated with a degree in law in 1990. He pursued further studies overseas, graduating Oxford University in 1996 with a Distinction in Public International Law and Merit in International Trade.

He is married to Ms. Ann Mariza Sanchez-Bensurto, and has one son, Mr. Henry Matthew Bensurto.

Pistahan Celebrates 26 Years!

The Pistahan Parade and Festival will once again be showcasing the best of Filipino art, dance, music and food at the Yerba Buena Gardens in the heart of downtown San Francisco.

This year, the 26th annual Pistahan Parade kicks off the festival weekend on Saturday, Aug 10. It's a colorful display of Filipino community pride and diversity as it marches along Market Street from Civic Center to the Yerba Buena Gardens with festive floats, authentic ethnic dances, lively community organizations and more!

The two-day celebration of Filipino culture and cuisine will be held from Saturday Aug. 10 to Sunday, Aug. 11, 2019 between 11 am to 5 pm. The Pistahan is expected to draw over 80,000 people. Admission is free and fun for the entire family. This year's event will feature the return of the popular balut eating contest, delectable Filipino cuisine and desserts, cultural and artisan merchandise by local entrePinoys, world class performances and 7 pavilions celebrating arts, innovation, leadership, health, dance, sports and cuisine.

The Pistahan was founded by the Filipino American Arts Exposition in 1994 after more than 4,000 Filipino families were displaced in the aftermath of the construction of the Moscone Convention Center and the Yerba Buena Gardens Complex. The Pistahan was born out of the community's activism to honor and preserve the enduring legacy of the Filipino American community's struggles, triumphs and deep roots in SOMA Pilipinas, the new Filipino cultural heritage district in San Francisco.
